Greg Daniels adapted this American version of the British series, setting it in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. It aired on NBC from March 24, 2005, to May 16, 2013, spanning nine seasons and 201 episodes. The show is a mockumentary-style sitcom that blends cringe comedy with heartfelt moments. Key cast includes Rainn Wilson as eccentric salesman Dwight Schrute, John Krasinski as prankster Jim Halpert, Jenna Fischer as receptionist Pam Beesly, and Ed Helms as later addition Andy Bernard. The series was a ratings success and critical darling, particularly after its first season, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest TV comedies of all time.

The show's format, a single-camera setup without a laugh track, gave it a documentary feel that allowed characters to break the fourth wall with direct glances and confessions to the camera. This technique became a hallmark, enabling the actors to convey unspoken reactions and inner thoughts. The mundane office setting was initially filmed in a real office building in Los Angeles before moving to a studio lot. Many cast members were improvisers, and their ad-libbed lines often made it into the final cut, contributing to the show's naturalistic humor.

The Office became a cultural phenomenon, its quotes and scenes permeating internet meme culture. Its popularity surged on streaming platforms, particularly Netflix and later Peacock, where it consistently ranked among the most-streamed shows. The show's enduring appeal lies in its relatable characters and the universal experience of navigating office politics, boredom, and unexpected friendships.

    Plot스포일러 없음

A documentary film crew arrives at the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company to capture the daily lives of office workers. They quickly discover that this office is far from ordinary, largely due to the behavior of regional manager Michael Scott, a man desperate to be liked by his employees, often at the expense of professionalism and common sense. Michael's well-meaning but clueless antics create a steady stream of awkward and embarrassing situations for everyone around him.

The series follows the intertwined lives of the employees. Jim Halpert, a witty salesman, spends much of his time pranking his cube-mate Dwight Schrute, an intensely ambitious and eccentric salesman with a deep loyalty to Michael and Dunder Mifflin. Jim also harbors romantic feelings for receptionist Pam Beesly, who is engaged to warehouse worker Roy Anderson. Pam, artistic and kind, dreams of a life beyond the reception desk. Other key figures include Stanley Hudson, a grumpy salesman who despises Michael; Phyllis Lapin-Vance, a motherly saleswoman; Angela Martin, a stern and judgmental accountant; Oscar Martinez, a rational accountant; Kevin Malone, a simple-minded accountant; and Meredith Palmer, a promiscuous supplier relations representative. Temporary employee Ryan Howard observes the chaos before eventually climbing and falling down the corporate ladder.

The central tension stems from the threat of downsizing and branch closures, which looms over the office from the first season. Michael constantly tries to prove the worth of his branch to corporate, often through misguided schemes. Interpersonal dynamics drive the narrative: Jim and Pam's slow-burn romance, Dwight's rivalry with Jim and his secret affair with Angela, and Michael's search for love and approval, which leads him into relationships with his boss Jan Levinson and later HR representative Holly Flax.

Season 1 establishes the characters and the mockumentary format, focusing on Michael's attempts to appear successful. Season 2 deepens the Jim-Pam-Roy triangle and introduces the fear of downsizing. Season 3 brings a merger with the Stamford branch, introducing new characters like Andy Bernard and Karen Filippelli, and sees Jim move to Stamford before returning to Scranton. Season 4 explores the fallout of Michael and Jan's breakup and Dwight and Angela's secret relationship, while Pam pursues her art studies in New York. Season 5 sees Michael briefly leave to start his own paper company with Pam and Ryan, testing loyalties and shifting office hierarchies. Jim and Pam become engaged.

Season 6 features the acquisition of Dunder Mifflin by Sabre, a printer company with an eccentric CEO, Jo Bennett. Jim and Pam marry and have their first child. Season 7 marks Steve Carell's departure as Michael, who moves to Colorado to be with Holly. The remaining staff adjust to life without their long-time boss. Season 8 introduces Robert California as the new CEO and sees Andy Bernard become regional manager, while Nellie Bertram causes disruptions. Season 9, the final season, culminates in the airing of the documentary, forcing the characters to reflect on their time at Dunder Mifflin and make decisions about their futures. Dwight finally becomes regional manager, and the series ends with a wedding and a sense of closure for the found family that the office became.
