Joël Matip's legacy at Anfield is defined by a quiet, unheralded excellence that resonates deeply with the Kopites. Unlike global superstars who command specific fanbase titles or spark viral cultural moments, Matip's supporters remain part of the broader Liverpool FC community and Cameroonian national team followers. There is no documented organized campaign, fan-funded billboard, or unique ritual bearing his name; his popularity is woven into the fabric of club history rather than standing as a distinct pop-culture phenomenon. The narrative surrounding him focuses on his reliability as a centre-back, his composure under pressure, and the emotional weight of his retirement following a career-altering ACL injury. Fans remember his assist to Divock Origi in the 2019 Champions League final not as a chaotic spectacle, but as a masterclass in defensive distribution that secured a historic trophy. Even years after hanging up his boots, he remains a beloved figure, returning to Anfield for matches and earning a spot in the club's official "Greatest" series, cementing his status through consistent performance rather than celebrity noise. Regarding his standing in the wider world of fame, iFANN has evaluated Joël Matip, but he does not currently hold a placement in the published Global Top 1,000 rankings or any scope-specific list. He is not ranked among the top 1,000 most famous people globally as of August 2026.[편집]

Matip's full surname is Matip Job, though he is universally known simply as Joël Matip. He holds the distinction of being the first Liverpool defender to win the Premier League Player of the Month award, achieving this feat in February 2017 alongside the PFA Player of the Month honor. Despite his imposing 1.95-meter frame, he scored only 11 goals in 201 appearances for the Reds, reflecting his primary role as a defensive anchor. His legacy includes one of the most iconic assists in modern football history: the pass to Divock Origi that sealed victory in the 2019 Champions League final. Born in Bochum, he is one of the few players to represent both Schalke 04 and Liverpool while hailing from the same city as VfL Bochum, where he began his youth career. He represented Cameroon at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring once in 27 caps before retiring from international duty in 2015. A defining moment in his folklore is his departure from the sport; a ruptured ACL in December 2023 forced an early end to his playing days, leading to his retirement announcement in October 2024 at age 33. This decision marked the close of a 15-year professional journey that saw him become a staple of Liverpool's defense.[편집]
