How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Theodor Seuss Geisel, the world knew as Dr. Seuss, first introduced readers to the Grinch in 1957. The book emerged from Geisel's own frustration with the growing commercialism of Christmas, a theme that resonates just as strongly today. Written in his signature rhymed verse and illustrated with his distinctive, whimsical art, the story follows a bitter, cave-dwelling creature who hatches a scheme to steal Christmas from the cheerful Whos of Whoville. Disguised as Santa Claus, the Grinch takes every present, decoration, and feast, only to discover that the Whos celebrate anyway, singing joyfully in the town square. The 1966 animated television adaptation, directed by Chuck Jones and narrated by Boris Karloff, has aired annually for decades, becoming a holiday tradition. Subsequent adaptations include a 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carrey, a 2007 stage musical, a 2018 animated film by Illumination starring Benedict Cumberbatch, and a 2023 podcast. The Grinch character appears on countless products, and Universal Studios theme parks host annual Grinchmas events.
