Goodbye, Eri

Yuta decides to film his mother's final moments before she dies from a terminal illness. He creates a documentary-style movie for his classmates, an act that turns into an obsession with capturing reality through a camera lens. The story shifts gears when he meets Eri, a mysterious girl who becomes his partner in crime and muse. Together they embark on chaotic adventures filled with pranks and elaborate films that blur the line between their real lives and the stories they create.

The narrative structure mimics the editing process of cinema itself. Readers encounter fake advertisements, credits, and behind-the-scenes footage that challenge what is actually happening versus what is staged for the screen. This meta-fictional approach explores how art processes trauma while questioning the ethics of documenting tragedy. The work stands as a profound meditation on grief, filmmaking, and the nature of storytelling without relying on traditional plot progression.

Tatsuki Fujimoto crafted this one-shot web manga originally released on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ platform in April 2022. The English translation arrived shortly after via Viz Media, LLC, presenting the complete story in a single paperback volume. Critics have praised the piece for its unique blend of slice-of-life drama, supernatural elements, and psychological depth, often comparing it to his other acclaimed work Look Back. [편집]
