Eternal Sunshine

Ariana Grande released her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine, on March 8, 2024, via Republic Records. The project draws its title and central theme from the 2004 film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, using that narrative framework to explore a relationship from initial infatuation through a painful dissolution to final self-acceptance. Recording sessions took place between September and December 2023 across five distinct locations including Jungle City in New York and several studios in Stockholm.

Grande assumed full production credits for every track on the record, marking a significant shift in her creative process. She worked with executive producers Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh, alongside David Park and Oscar Görres. Notably, frequent collaborators Tayla Parx and Victoria Monét did not contribute to this specific set. The sound blends pop and contemporary R&B with dance-pop and house elements, featuring Y2K-inspired textures and orchestral disco touches while prioritizing lyrical intimacy over vocal acrobatics.

The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, securing Grande's sixth chart-topping entry in the United States. It recorded the largest sales week for any album in 2024 up to that point. Two singles from the project reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100: "yes, and?" and "we can't be friends (wait for your love)." This achievement made it the only album of 2024 to generate multiple number-one hits on that chart. Critics praised the cohesive narrative and mature songwriting, with Rolling Stone awarding the record five stars and describing it as an "instant classic." The Recording Industry Association of America certified the album Platinum in September 2024. [편집]
