In China’s BoxOffice, pre-sales for AvengersEndgameEncore keep losing strength, ahead of its SEP 25 re-release (Previews on SEP 24)! Endgame’s rerelease ends 6th day of nationwide pre-sales with a $2.7M cume on WED, for whole SEP 24-27 period (vs TheBatman & TheMarvels $1.5M TheFlash $1.8M, DeadpoolAndWolverine $2.3M, TransformersRiseOfTheBeasts $4.5M, BrandNewDay’s $4.5M, TheOdyssey’s $4.8M 6-day pre-sales cume), with 1 day yet to go. Pre-sales breakdown: $628k SEP 24 THU Previews $1.6M SEP 25 FRI Rerelease Opening Day $345k SEP 26 SAT $115k SEP 27 SUN So far 67k screenings are available for pre-sales, insane for a rerelease, more than even TheOdyssey itself got for its Opening last month. But as we’ve been saying, with pacing slowing down, and pre-sales heavily concentrated on THU previews & on FRI (increased risk of Opening Day extremely more frontloaded than usual, even for CBMs) any dream for a record opening for a rerelease seems off the table. Even so, it could still dream of a 3-day opening around 20M+. IF it somehow manages to get that high, it would then challenge Avatar’s $21.2M re-release opening weekend back in 2021 as the biggest Hollywood reissue’s debut in China, and it would also still be one of the biggest debuts for any CBM Post-Covid. As I’ve mentioned yesterday, all we don’t want is another TaylorSwiftTheErasTour situation (where it was so frontloaded that 80% of its opening grosses came from tickets sold during pre-sales in China).
