    2026 Atlantic hurricane season forecast

The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is more than halfway complete as of September 15 and not a single hurricane has formed during the entire stretch. Five named tropical storms developed by that date, which sits below the typical pace since the Atlantic usually averages four hurricanes by mid-September. Scientists attribute the lack of storm organization to a strengthening El Niño, noting conditions created by it make it harder for Atlantic storms to organize and grow. NOAA forecasts 7, 13 named storms for the entire 2026 season along with 2, 6 hurricanes and no more than 2 major hurricanes for the whole year.
