Decades of conservation work in New Zealand have successfully prevented the extinction of a critically endangered bird species. Kākāpōs, recognized as the heaviest parrots on the planet, have seen their numbers climb by approximately 600% since 1995. More than 300 individuals of this flightless parrot exist.
