So Barnard 72 is this dark nebula way out in Ophiuchus, 1,400 light-years from us, and they call it The Bat because honestly that silhouette is undeniably bat-shaped. it’s a thick cloud of interstellar gas and dust so dense it just swallows every bit of starlight behind it, leaving this eerie black cutout floating against the Milky Way
