According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan was always for Oba Femi to win the King of the Ring tournament. However, instead of cashing in his title shot against Roman Reigns, he would turn it down in favor of a match with Brock Lesnar. The goal was to build up Reigns vs. Femi as the biggest possible matchup down the line.
